What If Jesus Christ Had A Sexual Identity?
I’m celebrating Pride Month with musings on the humanity of our God.
I’m a huge fan of the concept that God squeezed Himself into a flesh-onsie and walked around as people for a while. The creator of the universe took it upon Himself to experience all the major milestones of being human: birth, childhood, puberty, adulthood, and death, and all the experiences that come with that.
God had to learn to walk and talk and wipe His own booty without mama’s help, just like the rest of us. Without indoor plumbing or antibiotics, God certainly experienced illness and probably had parasites. God went through that phase where His face was covered in zits, and His genitals grew a mind of their own overnight, and an overwhelming, irrational shame over His own changing body filled His heart. Considering the wedding at Cana, I think it’s safe to assume that God has been hungover more than once.
It isn’t the miracle of God With Us that consumes my thoughts, but rather the mundanity and messiness of God As Us. Other gods come and go at their own leisure, covered in glamours for easy access to humanity when it suits them, but they are never actually human. Yahweh his different, though.
