Teachers Donating Sick Days To Colleagues IS A Symptom…
…Of The Great Nation We Could Have Been, and Could Still Be
I don’t know if you’ve seen this article floating around the ether over the last four years, but take a look.
Long story short, fellow teachers ultimately donated a total of 100 sick days so Robert Goodman could take time off for the treatment and rest he needed to keep being alive. Because, you know, sick leave is for the weak and anyone who dips into it probably deserves to die, anyway.
Which is how a lot of people will hear and react to this story, but — call me a cold blooded capitalist pig — I have some reservations about that interpretation.
Goodman is far from the only hard-working American citizen in this situation. The article linked above goes as far as to call it a “trend”, as well as a symptom of a blaringly obvious problem. The American workforce is clearly overworked, undercompensated, and gas-lit about the whole thing. You’d have to be blind or very rich to contest that.
So, as long as the American jobs market remains as it has been for the last decade or so, something clearly neeeeeeeds to be done to assist…
