Reminds me of my Catholic grandparents, who I loved dearly and were instrumental in teaching all their grandchildren that Jesus loved them - but they could also be very performative over how fruitful they had been. My brother and I were the only 2 grandkids who were Protestant, but they insisted on bringing us to Christmas mass to show off with the rest of their brood. AND THEN THEY WOULDN'T LET US JOIN COMMUNION ON CHRISTMAS. It was fine, mostly, but going to church with them was always weird.
