Then maybe we can resolve the issue like the grown-ups we are.

We’ve all been there. We make a mistake, we miss the mark, we aren’t able to do our best. There’s usually a valid reason for this. It’s not that we were actively trying to screw things up, we probably just lacked the insight to realize we were doing something wrong. Maybe we weren’t prepared properly for the task. Maybe we misunderstood the process. Maybe shit is a thing that happens occasionally, and we sometimes get caught up in it through no choice of our own.

And instead of having the issue examined, explained, or forgiven, we are scolded for having the audacity to not deliver perfect performance.

“I don’t need your excuses,” someone has probably snapped at you at some point in time, likely as you desperately tried to make them understand that you can’t control all your circumstances.

But no. Like the selfish, lazy asshole you are, you created an issue, and that authority figure had to get up and get involved in it. You should have planned ahead. You should have been more prepared. You should have tried harder. You should have listened better and paid closer attention.

I suppose the idea is to toughen you up. To teach you who the boss is, and that whatever your taskmaster says goes. Free thinking and autonomy on the…
