Balloons

They won’t stop following me…

I’ve come to hear recently that harsh circumstances are like balloons, in that accepting them is not the same as letting them go. Accepting them is as easy as taking them in your hand and walking off with them. And holding tightly to them so they don’t fly away. Letting them go can be painful, when the brightly-colored globes bobbing in the wind is so delightful. You can even tie them to your wrist so you don’t risk letting them go by accident, like you would for an easily distracted child.

The difference is that balloons burst, eventually. They pop, or deflate, or fly away, and are gone. And that’s one less thing in your life you have to worry about, no matter how much momentary cheer they brought you. No matter if they said Get Well Soon, or Happy Birthday, or had your favorite licensed character on them.

Circumstances outstay their welcome pretty fast.

There comes a point when its time for them to go. When its time for you to let them go.

And for whatever reason, you don’t know how to do that.
